1 · Add a font
Only subset fonts whose license allows it. Most open-source fonts (SIL OFL, Apache) do. Commercial licenses often require webfont rights.
2 · What you get
A WOFF2 file with every character, kerning pair and OpenType feature of the original, packed with Brotli compression for the web. The @font-face CSS and a preload tag come with it.
Only need Latin characters? The font subsetter can make the file much smaller.
2 · Characters to keep
For a logo-only font, untick every set above and paste the text here.
Advanced options
Narrow a range to cut file size. Set both ends to the same value for a static font.
3 · Your WOFF2
Loading the font engine…Why convert WOFF to WOFF2
WOFF, from 2010, compresses fonts with zlib. WOFF2 uses Brotli plus transforms that reorganize the font data, and in Google’s tests across its font library it came out about 30 percent smaller on average. Every current browser supports WOFF2, so most sites can drop their WOFF files entirely.
The converter unpacks the WOFF, keeps every character and repacks it as WOFF2. Update your @font-face rule to point at the new file with format("woff2"), and remove the old WOFF line unless you need to support Internet Explorer 11.
Questions
Do I still need the WOFF file?
Only for very old browsers like Internet Explorer 11. Every current browser loads WOFF2.
Is my font uploaded?
No. The conversion runs in your browser, inside this page.
